I'M BACK....
It's been awhile since I last blogging...
its like the earth was eatean 'Yusuf' from the world....
I guess a thousand reasons will be better to describe my 'disapearance' from the mother earth...

To Mother Earth: 'I had fullfill my duty as a human being to be able to find my partner of life'...
I guess She will be accepting my natural duty....of course preparing one of the biggest event in my life will be tough...nobody said it is a easy job.....

Especially when you are born in a conservative Chinese family...
The traditional Chinese wedding plus the sense of modern culture are mixing during my whole wedding things....

The preparation is not just 3 or 4 months before, but dated 1 year before my wedding...why?
Firstly, To get the date and the venue, is one year in advanced
Secondly, I had my pre wed photoshoot 6 months before my wedding

But thank god everything is smoothly done and officially I'M MARRIED.....

It is an amazing RoboCup 2010....

We really enjoyed and had fun...beside the tense of competition stress and result...overall we really enjoyed making new friends, see new technologies, and many many more things....

I would like to THANK my Field Rangers team members: Ai Ling, Yi Feng, Moming, Edward Looi, Haziq, and Wei Sheng

For their contribution during the competition especially during the robot maintenance, vision checking, battery checking, video taking, and many many other tasks that is possible during the RoboCup....

Also not to forget my senior Ong Tat Yeong, Ng Buck Sin, and Yan Chong for their help in solve some of the AI problem.....

Compeition Day 4

In the early morning, the 3rd and 4th place will be played by KIKS and MRL....it is the first medal for them in SSL League at RoboCup if they won the match....

The match started and ended very exicted as the final score 4-1 to MRL....Congratulation to MRL (Iran)....I guess this is the highest achievement by any Iranian team in SSL league....

Is the final everybody is waiting between Skuba (Thailand) and CMDragons (USA)....the current two top team in the SSL League...

The match started with much expected as Skuba robot keep bombarded the shooting to the CMDragons goal....and many of the goal scored to the amazing set pieces from the corner...as expected throughout the whole tournament, CMDragons had a weakness in the corner set pieces....as many team able to score against them during the corner set pieces....

Credit to Skuba with their amazing control and tactics....really take the SSL to much higher level compared to the previous year...

At the end the final score is 6-1 to Skuba...

Field Rangers Match Analysis Day 3

Competition Day 3

Today we had a Lucky Loser playoff against OMID (IRAN) at 10.00am...

To date there is alot of controversy in the SSL league as KIKS got a walk over win over CMDragons.....the reason CMDragons is doing that is they wanted to avoid meeting Skuba the last year champion in the semi final and reduced their chance of winning the league....

But to the fair play....i guess it is not a fair play...if you declared that you can beat any team with the so-called physical-based algorithm...why are you afraid of Skuba??

Anyway back to our match againt OMID.....this is the first time Field Rangers can performed their best strategy throughout the whole competition as our system become stable....but the only problem we faced is during the taking of penalty...for some reason the robot keep avoiding the ball and cost us 4 missed penalties...what a shame...later after the match i managed to solve the problem....at the end we got one goal and the final score is 1-0....and we are through to the quarter final against KIKS.....the winner of the Group D.....

Our quarter final match is at 12.30pm against KIKS (Japan)....

We know that we already achieved our target of Quarter Final and we had nothing to lose facing the KIKS.....

The match started and we conceaded an early goal just after kick off....what a shame to the goalie....but throughout the match the goalie performed superbly against the KIKS chip ball to our goal area.....we conceaded 2 more goal and the final score is 3-0.....

At the semi final, KIKS will meet Skuba and MRL will meet CMDragons for the place in the Final....

And once again Skuba showed their dominance by score 10-0 against KIKS and CMDragons beat MRL 4-1 to set a date with Skuba in the final tomorrow....and as for the 3rd and 4th placing will be KIKS and MRL....this will be their first achievement in the SSL league if the won the match....

Competition Day 2

We only have 1 match today against RFC Cambridge (MIT and Harvard)...

We know that we are guarantee a place in the quarter final match if ODENS can beat IMMORTALS in their early match...but to my suprise, ODENS conceaded a draw just 1 seconds before the match end....what a thrilled match....
With that result, we are guarante 2nd place in the group if we beat RFC Cambridge....

The match started at 3.30pm.....

The first half went to goalless....as RFC Cambridge put up an amazing defensive display....but slowly our attacker start to bombarded the RFC Cambridge defense....as we got an own goal and penalty before we score a superb shooting from mid line....at the end the score is 3-0...what a great score for us.....and guarantee a lucky loser playoff in the next day.....

Setup Day

The two days setup days is really stressful for Field Rangers...as this is the first time we had run full field test...as in our lab, we had only half field for testing...

We encountered so many problems with the full field run....the merging parts....the control as well as the role switching....

At the end of the setup days we are a little bit scared that the system will not run smoothly during the match....

Competition Day 1

Day 1 schedule is against ODENS (JAPAN) at 10.30am (The last year 4th place finished) and IMMORTALS (IRAN) at 3.30pm....

Against ODENS, we had many chances to score and lucky enough to score one before the half time...we had 2 penalties saved by ODENS goal keeper...at the end we managed to stay 1-0....what a good start for us...as there is one robot that exploded due to the shorted to the capacitor wire...but luckily it didnt affect our performance......

At our second match against IMMORTALS, we know that if we won the match against them we could guarantee our place in Quarter Final....but the match didn't go to our place as we conceaded a penalty and IMMORTALS score from penalty...it is a controversial goal as the opponent robot touch the goalie first before scoring...but we accepted it as it is a decision from the referee...as the match went through...IMMORTALS put up a superb defensive displayed...as 3 robots will closed the ball when near their defense area....our robot had difficulty go to ball and score....at the end we Lose 1-0 to IMMORTALS.....

RoboCup is Over!!!

What a week...
At last, RoboCup 2010 Singapore is over...

As for my league, SSL League, we achieved our target of quarter final spot....
To be away for 4 years and prepare the whole system from scratch within just 8 months and with limited man power is truly a remarkable achievement for Field Rangers....

It started just after RoboCup 2009 Graz, Dr. Zhou decide to relaunch the Field Rangers team back again to compete at RoboCup 2010 Singapore...

At start with me alone to develop the mechanical structure and hardware structure to be able to compete with current robot speed and strength...after that the motion control and thanks to Buck...we can get our robot runs....

Next is the AI that is able to run with the Shared Vision proposed for RoboCup 2010....it took me about 2 months to be able to communicate with the Shared Vision and the final 2 months with the robot strategies and controls....

Although we had so many problem..but gladly during the competition the system run smoothly with days increase, so do the different strategies applied....

Hi all welcome to Singapore...

Will like to say thank you to all friends from over the world...enjoy the city of Singapore...hope we can be a good host and become the best ever RoboCup event this year....

As i had been very busy with the preparation of the RoboCup these 3 days...i had very satisfied outcome on the preparation...though there is a lot of obstacle but hopefully it will gone smoothly without any problem...

As for my team...Field Rangers...the grouping is out and we are at the same group with ODENS (Japan), IMMORTALS (Iran), and RFC CAMBRIDGE (USA)....although we are the last seed team, we are hoping to give a good fight....

6 Days to RoboCup!!

Yeah finally the week of RoboCup 2010 is coming here...and the preparation to the games eeeeeeeeee.....not ready yet...hahaha...as there is so many things to do with little man power...especially in our humanoid league...

Im a bit pity with Buck the leader of the our humanoid league...is basically him and Torin that doing all the things....but take credit to our alumni that come and helped during the difficult time...

As for my side the Field Rangers also is not really ready yet...as there is an issues with the control speed and the AI thread timing....the new SSL Vision System gave us so much thread problem....but hopefully we are ready till the last day....

We are all over the news again since Buck published his video of the RoboErectus Jr.

25 Days to RoboCup 2010!!

Its been super super super busy day at work in preparing for RoboCup 2010....

As for my team Field Rangers...there is only me alone do everything from mechanical, hardware to AI....so to expect a good result will be a miracle...but hope can achieved target set by the top management....

I think Field Rangers lack the control and has a bad set pieces....so, the focus will be on the set pieces and the control.....

Counting down to the ROBOCUP 2010...and the month of hell will arrive soon....
50 DAYS more to be exact....and for my league (SSL) is going smoothly...
better than i expected.....the only problem is the man power as there is only ME,YUSUF,CONG and PRANGGONOH....(hahahaha)......

Actually i am glad to have few good student under me and hopefully they will continue the knowledge to carry on for the next year competition.......

This year target is to qualify to the next round 'that's it'....as we been away for 4 years and no longer a top team...hopefully will be a good underdog for this year competition...

What a great trip this time....together with my friend Max.....

This is the first time Max going to my hometown...according to him, he had a really cultural shock as the ppl is so relax like nothing going to happen...he wished to stay here long....hahaha....

From the airport we went directly to the Mount Sibayak accompany by my best mate Benny with his worker....after that hot spring and we go down Tongging...the city just beside the Lake Toba....we are staying overnite there.....

2nd Day...we are doing the canoeing using local people boat...what a scary boat....its really traditional....and we having lunch with the freshest fish....and go down to Sipiso piso waterfall and nite stay at Benny place....

3rd Day....back to Medan City...went to Sun City and back to the airport ready to go back to Singapore....

What a wonderful experience and happy that Max is enjoying the trip....

After so longggg....at last HappyFeet FC registered their biggest won in the league so far.....4-1 is the score against the bottom side Rampant Lion (Scottish)......

This match break my record......yeah my record of taking penalty...why???

Cuz i missed it....after almost 2 years since i missed my last penalty and i missed yesterday....i balooned the ball on top of the bar with the keeper already dive to the left....SHIT....

Okay time to look for the next week game....my hope for the HappyFeet FC is to qualify to the premier division as well as finished top 2 in the cup ties.....although we are the underdog....
Hope to all the player can keep the composure running wild....

Its been awhile since i last blogging....being super busy lately of course with the work...

The competition date is near and in between that there is so many crap things to do....
Just for little update, the following is our Qualification Video for RoboCup 2010:

Anyway I would like to say: GONG XI FAT CHOY to all my friends, colleagues, brothers and sisters....hope the year of TIGER will bring more luck and business...
As for me this year is very important year for me...so wish me a full of luck a year ahead......

Its been a busy month....hopefully will go through it well....

For my soccer team...we created a record 7-1 won with record attandance of 20 players coming for the match...i guess the night match is great for us...everybody can make it after a day of working....The HappyFeet FC group photos:

Next is the SRG (Singapore Robotics Games)....

I didn't prepared well for it...only one day before competition then just started to tuned the robot control and AI....really not interested in the game at all....but at least the spirit of the games is still there....At the end we lost 7-3 and 11-0 to NYP....

Overall it fared better than any previous year before...at least we scored 3 goals....

Its time to get serious before the RoboCup 2010.....our SSL is about 60% completed...left the AI and robot control....althougtht Field Rangers consists of 2 main people, which is me and Buck...at least we did a great improvement compared to the old robot....in term of control, hardware and mechanical design....at least for the moment...

With our control god (Buck)....the robot speed and control are fantastic....my hope is another of my senior (Tat Yeong) will help me with AI protocol.....and also with the help of a new member that will joining soon to handle the vision system....

Yeah just pray.................

Frustation Sunday!!

Its been a frustation sunday....because of the soccer match....

First the field is about hour plus to go there...and the worst was during the match...

Although we drew 2-2, but the goal conceaded by the controversial decision by the referee....

The opponent is like 2 yards off the line yet he never blowed the whistle offside...

really a fucking referee...I am more doubt and doubt about this league referee performance....

Its been many games we had been disadvantages be the stupid decision.....

But at least i ended the game by scoring a penalty....to make my team drew 2-2....

Its been awhile since i missed my last penalty....become more and more calmed during the take....

Anyway, Happyfeet FC distributed our new jersey....

Its been a wonderfull yet exciting year behind me...i will remember this 2009 for a long time...this is my year changing experience of my entire life....some of the events:
-im back to where i belong ------ ROBOTS
-i finally graduated
-i achieved a target earning in a year
-i finally can wakeboarding
-i proposing my long time girl friend
-i bought her a BlackBerry
-i conquered Mount Sinabung
-and many many more...

At last...i successfully did the wakeboarding for 1 round...haha...but it just my second wakeboarding trip...it was good and fun...

At first, i thought well the first corner will do....but i over achieved that by go further ahead with 1 round....next target will be the jumping start and try to go more than 2 round....

Its been a super busy week after my trip to Bali....

Reason...preparing for the RoboCup Singapore Open 2009....even it is just a junior event...my centre is providing all the necessary support like demonstration and demonstration and demonstration.......

But good news is my demonstration is about 90% completed.....glad that it at the end work....i will update the video to you guys soon.....

After 3 defeat in row at last we won the game...some more against the team that we had never beaten before...Club M...and the score is amazing 2-0...so in the league cup ties we never conceaded a goal in all 3 matches....

Complement to our goal score Jeff and Raymond...especially the last goal which pump our energy up after waves of attacking from Club M....for the record...we lost twice against them 5-2 and 5-1....now he had beaten them 2-0.....

And the good news is we are qualify to the second round and avoid meeting up with the defending champion Sofene FC....

The match is really one of the best matches for the defender...we are defending very well and not commiting to the opponent players.....

My wishes to for the team for the next week match...as i will be away to Bali....

Bali here I come....hope to enjoy this trip with my lovely Jenty....will update the pictures of our trip next week...

I conquered the highest peak at northern sumatera!!!

Mount sinabung is the highest peak at Northern sumatera island....

We managed to go express treking to go to summit with only 4 hours plus and down again with only 3 hours....

A normal people usually took about 6 hours to the summit and 5 hours to go down again.....

One thing that I learned from this treking is the determination...i guess stamina and physical body is the lower priorities compared to the determination to the summit...

When u see the 70 degree cliff, i guess more of the people will back down....remember that at Mount Sinabung the cliff is about 1 hours journey long....

There is a big steamboat at my home to celebrate the opening of mahjong...hahaha...
Its been awhile since i played mahjong...i guess almost 3 years.....

I invited Ai ling and Guo Hua (My colleague), Amo and Kurnia (My old classmate), and Ai ling boyfriend. Not bad I still managed to won $2...haha...

On Sunday, HappyFeet FC have a big match against the current leader of Qualifying Division, the Vipers. I can only played for 2nd half. And guess what...because of the fuckup referee and his his fuckup decision, we lost 3-1...we should at least drew with them...

After the match I keep thinking of resigning from the team....i felt no passion anymore about playing soccer....HOW??????
I will see the next performance, whether i want to resign from the team or not....
so wait and see...

The work done by our very own control expert....Buck the Lion...hahahahaha....

We also just tested our new chip kicker strength with total capacitance of 4800uF....the distance is about 5m......So we achieved our target distance above 4m...we are still thinking about increasing the total capacitance to 7200uF....we see whether it can break our lab window glass....hehehe.....

Worst match this season!!!

Today....wat a day....not a great day but a very bad day....
First.....I thought the match start at 3pm....so i came early and then go back home again....
Second....I made a mistake in the defence and the opponent made a goal....my performance today is very bad...made an early mistake...luckily Felix the goalkeeper saved my ass....at the end the score 2-1 to the Titans....Thx to Isiah to score back....

Moral of today match....The Penguins showed their true colour in the competing with top teams...although we started with 10 mans and down with 10 mans almost for the whole second half, we showed them that we are able to compete with them....
For the Titans....DON'T BE FUCKING CHILDISH....by doing what they do today, can they really held their head up?? So this is the Top League team standard??

Now....must think about our next match with Vipers....the other candidate team for the championship.....Hope that I can bounce back from today performance....

I scored my second goal of the season....and guess what another penalty....
Probably I became penalty master of HappyFeet FC.....

The night before, my lovely girlfriend and me were having a great dinner at Ju Ju Hokkaido Hotpot restaurant. OOHHHH....it was a very full dinner with both of us called for pork and beef set.....

We had won our first match in the EFL League, and the score is 5-3 against Hibernians United (Irish Team).....
Again it is not a clean sheet match....as a defender i feel ashamed to it....All the goals conceaded because of the lack of communication between defenders and goalkeeper.....To make it worst we have 2 own goal....
But we are performing better on the 2nd half and the defender did a clean sheet.....
Hope perform better next week on our next friendly match....

Last saturday going to Batam for the wakeboarding...its really fun...and i become addicted to it...to be real i'm abit frustated that only be able to do the kneeboarding....still felt into the water when doing the wakeboarding....
I will be back again next month...

Rainy sunday...please rain go away...i wanna play soccer....
A waited match against J-Heat might have been cancelled due to rain....
I might did something wrong yesterday for cursing Arsenal....hahaha

Today is the first match for our Happy Feet FC in the Qualifying Division of EFL League.......
The score is 6-5 to British Club Second XI....
It is a thriller match which both side attacking and defending....
We are leading at the first half 3-2...
The lack communication between the defender caused the score become 6-4....but we keep fighting and had our chance in the last minutes of the match...but too bad we can only managed to score 1 back.....
But it's still early in the league.....we will wait and see for the next one....

At last....after 4 year eaten by the GOD of Earth, the birth of the FieldRanger SSL 2010 is out......

It still too early to get a top class perfomance as before....as it still need alot of testing and troubleshooting......new featured is also added and so on....

Now I got alot of things to do to aim for better result in RoboCup 2010....
First is the Small Size....
This robot will totally new technology that hopefully will be compete with the current team...
Its been 3 years since we last participate....

Second is the Teen size humanoid robot....
I will be in charge of the sensor part...Teen size will be the priority as it provide higher chance of winning the competition....

Third will be the autonomous robot...
As it will be confirm later....

Im Back...after a week long quarantined.....
On Tuesday, I got down with Flu....suspected a H1N1 Flu.....cuz all the symptoms were there:
- Sore Throat
- Fever
- Cough
- Body ache
- Headache
Went for blood test and luckily the result was negative....just a normal but dangerous flu.....
so I quarantined myself at home till Friday.....
Now Im back to work and fully fit to role the world again......

What a surprise on this year RoboCup 2009 Graz, Austria.

Firstly, on Small Size League category........

The defending champion Plasma Z (Thailand), surprisingly beaten 7 : 2 by the eventual champion Skuba also from Thailand.....
The last year runner-up CMDragons'09 knocked out at the quarter finals by unknowing team Odens (Japan) 1 : 0.....
Here is the final standing:
1st: Skuba (Thailand)
2nd: RoboDragons (Japan)
3rd: Plasma Z (Thailand)
Skuba also won the Technical Challenge (Passing, Shooting and Navigation).

Secondly, on Humanoid League....

NimbRo Kid (Germany), the first seed team was beaten in Semi final Kid size humanoid league by Darmstadt Dribblers (Germany) 2 : 7......Dribblers showed an amazing robot AI in playing soccer....with all the movement and balance to control the game start from the beginning to the end....in the Final Dribblers beat FUmanoid (Germany) which also suprisingly beat CIT Brains (Japan) 4 : 3........Final score 11 : 1......
Final standing for Kid Size League:
1st: Darmstadt Dribblers (Germany)
2nd: FUmanoid (Germany)
3rd: CIT Brains (Japan)

Final standing for Teen Size League:
1st: NimBro TeenSize (Germany)
2nd: CIT Brains TeenSize (Germany)
3rd: Tsinghua Hephaestus (China)

Lastly, Team RoboErectus again coming back empty handed...it had been very long since it bring a trophy back to the ARICC centre......

Next year will be different....I HOPEEEEEE....as it will be in our home ground and hope that everything will be prepared well.....

I guess will be the same with SP not qualifying to the next stage....

What a shame...this year Singapore didn't even score a single goal...what happen....

Lenovo Laptop suck....

Just one day of using Lenovo T400, it already gave me a lot of problems. Suddenly the blue screen keep appearing and now i cannot even go through the Windows. WTF!!!

My data and work now is history. But luckily i did the back up to my external HD. Just that the today design is gone......haiiizzzzz

Called the company that supplied the laptop to us and they dunno what wrong and refer me directly to IBM. Another WTF!!!

Very frustrated day.....

This the RCJ soccer robot version 1....yeah almost ready to play just a small problem of the kicker and dribbler part.

This is the latest small size robot.....hope that this robot can rock n roll on 2010....only the mechanical design is completed.....next is the new motherboard + kickerboard......new AI + strategy.....

Another Problem!!!

Trying to solve the problem with the motor controller board but still don't know where is the problem.....GIVE UPPPPPPPP.....

But the good news is the robot will be up at the ARICC 'Museum' (Unused robot).....hahahahaha.....new development is on the way.

Now trying to develop the second version with all the troubleshooting done in the first version...and hopefully it will worked. (Not hopefully but will WORK).

Just received 2 Lenovo T400 laptop from ARICC. (see the picture below).

Hope to bring back Small Size League alive again. That is my dream since coming back to ARICC. The name 'FIELDRANGER' had been out for 3 years. Hope to bring back the glory again..See the Trophy won at RoboCup Osaka 2005.

And the photo with Cornell Big Red after the semi final match which we lost controversially 3-2 to them. Anyway good to have a game with Cornell at their very last participation.

Problem problem....

It had been 2 days trying to solve the problem of my robot...Initially it worked well...but after connected the dribble and kicker everything COCK UP...WTF!!!

Anyway to introduce, I had been trying to develop RoboCup Junior Soccer robot for ARICC. This robot will playing soccer with the platform almost the same with Small Size League but this one is for Junior league (below 19 years old). Means everything must be simple and understandable due to the knowledge of the 'JUNIOR'. As for small size it falls under category of "PROFESSOR" knowledge (see the different!!!!!).

Hopefully this project can complete in time so that I can back and focus on the Small Size league.

This is only the first version. Of course will be alot of problem. As I designed it from nothing and also alot of trial and error. The most difficult part is the low level controller. Total there are 10 IR sensors, 1 solenoid for kicking, 1 dribbler and 4 DC motors.

The reason for the top of the world is of course we are still in the top table of the EFL (Equatorial Football League) for more than 2 months. Link: EFL LEAGUE

Today game is really a lot of controversies. Firstly, we score the fastest goal, I guess around 15 seconds by our striker JEFF. Secondly, the hot weather. Thirdly, the FUCKED UP field. We can still saw some debris of the construction metal left on the field. And lastly, the FUCKED UP referee. I don't know why EFL had such a referee. Anyway good news is our captain will complain to the EFL. And the final score is 1-0.

Oh ya...my soccer team is HAPPYFEET FC. Our motto is 'Always Happy'.
